Melisa scrambled downstairs and dashed into the car. It was the first day of summer vacation and her family was planning to go to a beach in the U.S. with their playful dog Joy. Melisa accidentally slept in and it was getting late! Finally, Melisa and her family reached their destination. They were dazzled by the stunning view. The water was as clear as a crystal and the mountains behind the ocean welcomed them. The waves sounded like the whispering wind. The sand was so soft. While they were admiring the view, Joy ran away!
Melisa tried to chase him, but he was faster than her and he was already far away. Melisa’s eyes watered up. She adored Joy and really hoped to find him. She decided to take a walk around the beach. Maybe that would make her feel better. While she was walking, she saw a glimpse of fluffy, white fur. She blinked … and saw Joy hopping with tons of seagulls flying above him. Melisa called Joy a million times, but Joy didn’t want to go back because he loved chasing birds.
Melisa felt dejected. She didn’t know that Joy enjoyed chasing birds more than playing with her. She went back to her parents, told them about what happened, and asked them what she should do. Her dad firmly responded that he didn’t know what to do yet, but he was sure that they will come up with an idea. Her mom, on the other hand, softly remarked that it would be impossible.
In the meantime, Melisa’s dad was still thinking. Before long, he quietly suggested that they should wave Joy’s favorite treat in front of him and back up slowly, making Joy follow them. Melisa wasn’t sure if the plan was going to work, but she agreed to do it since it was the only way. She did what her dad told her to do and to her surprise, Joy actually followed them! When they got him back, Melisa hugged him so tightly and yelled “Joy!”. The whole family had a fantastic day at the beach TOGETHER!
